How to make a bunkie board for twin bed?

I need to make a bunkie board for a twin bed. I'd like to know the idea way to go. Should I buy and cut a sheet of osb or plywood, staple on some padding Like left over carpet padding and cover and staple it with a sheet? Or should I cut several slats say 2x4 cut the width of the frame?
