Will I get into legal troubles if...?

If I put more hours than I worked on my time sheets but never got caught and now I want to do what's right by returning approximately the amount I was paid without earning. If I tell someone at the payroll at my old place of work face to face what I did, can I get into legal issues because of the lies I told on my timesheet?
